Nils-Petter was commissioned by the French record label Falco Invernale Records for the band Shemale and their release SHEMALE – Supreme Beings, a 12" vinyl on the French electro label. The music, dark and slow, draws inspiration from Lovecraftian mythology. In response, Nils-Petter sought to capture this atmosphere through a vision of futurism and the future.
The solution became a visual world inspired by Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, where the iconic pentagram subtly resonates with Lang’s original imagery. The album cover depicts a creature – maybe resembling a robot, embodying both the alien and the mechanical. The back cover, arguably the most important image, shows a city rising from the water — a striking combination of obscene extraterrestrial Cthulhu architecture and Metropolis-like urban forms, evoking the sunken city of R’lyeh. Rendered in black and white, the imagery achieves a cinematic quality that mirrors the music’s dark, atmospheric tone.
